There are many delightful villages near, and not so far. The small village of Dému En Armagnac is just 5 minutes away by car — with a grocery, garage and bakers.
The town of Vic Fezensac is less than 10 minutes drive and boasts 12 restaurants plus banks, bakers, butchers, assorted shops, cinema and various bars and cafés. There is an excellent market every Friday.
Within a 45 minute drive there are many delightful villages and small towns with more restaurants and cafés. Bastide villages built in the 13th century are plentiful as are walled villages of great charm.
The house is surrounded by vineyards and tastings abound. Cote de Gascogne, St Mont and Madiran wines are sensational and growing in poularity throughout the world.
The roads are very often empty although the main RN 124 runs nearby and goes from the Atlantic coast to Toulouse on modern carriageway. Many of the small roads are excellent and charming to drive.
The Pyrenées are 1.5 hours drive and from the top of the road near the house, the mountains can be clearly seen on about 50 days in the year.
The Atlantic coast and beaches are 2 hours away.
Bordeaux is 2 hours to the north west and beautiful Toulouse, France’s second largest City is 1.5 hours to the east.
There is a golf course 25 minutes away and two further courses within 45 minutes.
There are excellent facilities for water sports at nearby lakes and the charming country lanes are ideal for cycling and walking. The pool is safe and alarmed.
Dému is the same latitude as Nice but very different. A climate controlled by the mountains and ocean.
Spring — stunning and colourful.
Summer — warm, long days.
Autumn — lasts until December, with fabulous flowers and some beautiful blue skies.
Winter — it can be cool, but the house has two wood-burning stoves plus central heating and is very cosy.
